The MagMod modifier system works because of the universal design of the MagGrip 2. The MagGrip 2 is a patented design made of high-quality silicone rubber which makes it easy to stretch and fit onto almost any hot-shoe flash. In addition, the MagGrip 2 contains two rare earth magnets used to attach the MagMod line of flash modifiers including the MagGrid 2, the MagSphere 2, the MagBounce 2, and more!
There’s only one MagGrip design, so you don’t have to worry about getting different sizes for different flashes. While we haven't tested the MagGrip 2 with every flash on the market, we are confident that the MagGrip will work with most flashes that have a rectangular flash head and round head flashes.

Yes, you will need the MagGrip 2 to attach any MagMod Modifier onto your flash. It is the "adapter" piece that is the base of our system. It has two super strong rare earth magnets embedded in it so that all of the other MagMod Modifiers (also with embedded magnets) attach to it quickly, quietly, and securely.
Will the MagGrid 2 work with the original MagGrip?
While all MagMod 2 products are compatible with the previous MagMod system, you will have the best possible experience when using each modifier alongside other modifiers of the same version.

I had original MagGrid for years and was happy with it how fast and convenient I can modify my lights, but now I did add one more Flash for my wedding reception repertoire and needed One more grid. What a difference! Great improvement and im so glad MagMod is listening his customers and improving already good products. Way to go! Love you MogMod!

Great way to control spread of light
I love this, i use it at every wedding in diferent situtations because you can focus the light on the couple and stack 2 or 3 to make it very pinpoint and make them contrast with the background, its so portable and with magnets its great and easy to use, i use them with my ad200 and speedlights 10/10

Controlling light spill
I wanted something that would help me focus the light exactly where I wanted it and these worked great combined with some magmod gels. It put the light exactly where I wanted on the model instead of covering the entire room in light.
